Connection, Repair, Transformation

About Dr. Pilar

With over 20 years of practice as a doctorate-level mental health professional, Dr. Pilar has carefully crafted, tested, and developed a unique approach to therapy.

Through clinical, supervisory, teaching, research, and life experience, her integrative approach combines emotion-based, experiential, internal family systems, transgenerational, somatic, and nature-based therapy—bringing equity issues into consideration in context & when timing is appropriate.

I became a therapist because I deeply value helping others from a relational perspective.

A uniquely seasoned relational approach

We live inside a web of relationships — with the people we love, the world we inhabit, and the many parts of ourselves still asking to be known

There's something quietly profound that happens when we stop running from our inner world and start getting genuinely curious about it. It opens up change we didn't know was possible — in ourselves, in our relationships, in what feels available to us. And it's almost always easier with someone to help light the way

Couples Therapy

When a couple comes to me — exhausted, guarded, often unsure whether things can change — what I usually find underneath the arguments and distance is two people who desperately want to feel safe with each other but don't know how anymore. Drawing on Emotionally Focused Therapy, Internal Family Systems, Intergenerational family therapy, and an equity lens, I help partners understand their own internal landscape well enough to stop reacting and start genuinely connecting.  I also help partners repair after experiencing betrayal and infidelity. The work is honest, sometimes difficult, and consistently transformative.

Individual therapy

I've spent years sitting with people in some of the hardest moments of their lives — in the aftermath of traumatic experiences (sexual abuse, domestic violence), deep in grief, hollowed out by depression, unraveled by divorce or a transition that took more than they expected. What I've learned is that most suffering has a logic to it. The anxiety, the numbness, the self-criticism — these are not character flaws. They're protective responses that made sense once and now cost too much. Using an integrative approach rooted in IFS, attachment theory, experiential therapy, and an equity lens, I help people get underneath the surface of their symptoms and into genuine contact with what's actually driving them. The goal isn't just relief. It's a different relationship with yourself — one built on understanding, compassion, and real inner freedom.
